He who promised, is faithful
“When are ya’ll gonna have a baby?” “You ain’t pregnant yet?” “When are you going to have that baby a sibling?” “Why haven’t you had any children yet?” “Ya’ll don’t want any kids?” “You better have your babies now before it gets too late!”
Some ask these questions so innocently, not knowing the sting it leaves in the heart of some women.
What you don’t know is, she’s trying to hold back the tears because she was SA’d at age 7 and by the time she told someone, the STD she contracted left her unable to have children. What you don’t know is, that couple has been trying to have children for five years, but have been unsuccessful. What you don’t know is, she miscarried a week ago. What you don’t know is, she just left a doctor’s appointment where she was told she has PCOS and she doesn’t know how to explain this to her spouse. What you don’t know is, they just had to explain to their 5-year-old daughter how the baby that was in mommy’s tummy has gone to be with Jesus. What you don’t know is, the constant feeling of not being “good-enough” or “woman” enough to have a baby. The feeling you get when everybody is asking you “When?” and you softly respond back, “in God’s timing,” but deep down inside, you are wondering if God has forgotten about you…
This morning, I was reading Luke 1. As soon as I began to read about Zechariah and Elizabeth, my heart leaped for joy! Because it gave me a message for those that are running out of hope. Zechariah and Elizabeth were Godly, righteous people, yet they both suffered because she was barren. I can only imagine how people looked at them back in the day. You know, back when women were having children left and right. So these righteous people, grew old and didn’t have any children. Then one day, while Zechariah was praying… an angel came to him and told him that God heard his prayer and that Elizabeth would have a baby! But, like many of us, Zechariah wanted to know HOW this would happen… instead of just trusting God to come through! (I know sometimes we get so focused on HOW instead of just knowing WHO…but anyway) SO, God had to shut his mouth! And he couldn’t speak until the baby was born.
Let’s talk about this. This man had an angel to appear and tell him that his prayers had been heard and would be answered… he would have a son! Yet, he doubted. He wanted to know how God would do this? Sometimes, I totally get focused on what I can see going on around me right now, that I forget that God is working behind the scenes. That’s why we don’t have to see it. We should have FAITH that God never breaks his promises and he will deliver in his prefect timing. We just have to have confidence and patience! Once you begin to trust God completely, you can rest assured that he can work it out! It doesn’t matter that your situation LOOKS impossible to your human eyes! This is why it is so important to have a personal, relationship with God. So that when he talks to you, you listen and can stand on your own faith in Him.
Secondly, lets address the fact that God had to shut his mouth. Sometimes, when we are going through rough seasons, test, and trials… we prolong it with our nasty attitudes, negative thoughts and our complaining! We start speaking death over our situations day in and day out, cancelling out what God is trying to do in our lives. Let us not forget that life and death IS in the power of the tongue. We have to be very careful what we say AND what we allow to be spoken over our lives. For example, instead of “I’m not able to have children.” Say, “Doctors have told me that I am not able to have children, but GOD said “insert scripture here…” I never accept everything people have to say about me, nor do I receive every “Word from the Lord.” Pray for discernment and know what the Word of the Lord says.
Now, for those of you that identified with the introduction of my blog… this last part is for you!
Luke 1:24-25 NLT
“Soon afterward his wife, Elizabeth, became pregnant and went into seclusion for five months. ‘How kind the Lord is!’ she exclaimed. “He has taken away my disgrace of having no children!”
Luke 1:25 ERV
“Look what the Lord has done for me! He decided to help me. Now people will stop thinking something is wrong with me.”
Sis, I know your hurt, your pain. I know that you don’t know what to say and how to say it. I know you feel like you’re trying to live for God, you’re married and you STILL haven’t had a baby. I know how you feel when someone says that they are “trying,” then next week they are pregnant. I know you feel like everyone is looking at you like something is wrong with you. I know you think that God has forgotten about you but SIS! God cares about every, single part of our lives! He KNOWS the desire of our heart. He KNOWS you desire a family. He KNOWS you desire to be a godly mother, to raise up God-loving children. He knows that you feel hopeless everytime someone asks you why haven’t you had a baby yet. He also knows how humiliated you feel everytime you see a BFN. But what I need you to know is that he is the SAME God today, that he was back then. Sis, if he can bless Elizabeth…what makes you think he cannot do the same for you? Sis, If he cared enough for Elizabeth… why do you feel like he has forgotten about you? Sis, please find hope in knowing that God’s power isn’t confined by what we see. Don’t doubt what God can do.
